About VAIN
What does VAIN do?
VAIN is an AI film production studio in Vienna. We make commercials, brand films, social spots, stills and key visuals on a generative pipeline, with a director, an edit and a post-production team behind every job. Original short films are where we test the limits. See our work.
What does "directed AI" mean?
That a director decides, not the model. Every shot is generated in many takes and chosen like a performance; characters, products and looks are cast as fixed assets; feedback lands on the frame and is corrected in post where generation drifts. The tools are public. Taste is not. See how a job runs.
Who is behind VAIN?
Georg Blume, founder and AI director, runs VAIN; Peter Schöffer is executive producer and looks after contracts, rights and infrastructure. VAIN is a brand of ICS Media GmbH in Gmunden and Vienna, in film production since 1992. See the studio.
How are VAIN, dockyard and ICS Media connected?
All three are ICS Media GmbH. ICS is the group and the company; dockyard is its film production for live action; VAIN is its studio for AI film. One contract, one invoice, one director when a job is hybrid. See ics-media.at and dockyard.at.
Where are you based, and do you work internationally?
Vienna, with the company seat in Gmunden, Austria. Clients are in Austria and abroad, from Munich to the Gulf; the pipeline does not mind the distance, and hybrid shoots run wherever our production partners are.
Services
Which kinds of films do you make?
TV commercials, online and social spots, brand films, product films, explainer and image films, vertical formats, short films. Plus stills and key visuals from the same pipeline. See services.
Do you also make stills and key visuals?
Yes. Key visuals, out-of-home, e-commerce sets and social imagery, with the same characters and looks as the film, in every aspect ratio and at print resolution. See stills and key visuals.
Can you combine AI with a real shoot?
Yes, that is a hybrid production with dockyard: live action for what has to be real, generative for what a shoot cannot afford or reach, one director for both. See hybrid production.
Do characters and products stay consistent?
They have to. Characters, products and locations are cast as fixed assets before generation starts, and every shot is checked against them. Where a hand, a label or a reflection drifts, post-production corrects it on the frame instead of re-rolling the scene. See post-production.
Which formats and lengths do you deliver?
16:9 for TV, cinema and web; 9:16 and 4:5 for social; 1:1 where a platform still asks for it. Lengths from 6-second bumpers to long-form. Masters to broadcast specification, plus cut-downs, subtitles and language versions.
Do you handle voice-over, music and sound?
Yes. Sound design, music licensing or composition, voice-over in the languages you need, and the final mix are part of post-production on every job.
Working together
How do we start a project?
Send the brief, a deck or a rough idea to contact@vain.at or use the contact form. You get a treatment, a schedule and a fixed price for a defined scope.
What does an AI film cost?
It depends on length, number of formats and versions, the complexity of characters and products, and the feedback rounds you want. A social spot costs a fraction of a shoot; a broadcast TVC with a campaign of stills is a real production with a real budget. Every offer is a fixed price for a defined scope, so the number does not move once we start.
How long does a production take?
Timelines follow the brief. A campaign can take two months, and should; a single social spot is a matter of weeks. Fixed dates are part of every offer. See how a job runs.
How do feedback rounds work?
Two correction rounds per production step are included, as in our terms; more can be booked. Feedback is given on the storyboard first, where changes are cheap, then on the cut. It lands on the frame, and we correct there rather than re-generating whole scenes.
In which languages do you work?
German and English in production and contracts. Films are delivered in any language you need, with native voice-over and subtitles.
Rights and data
Who holds the rights to the finished film?
You receive the usage rights defined in the offer, for the media, territories and period agreed; broader or unlimited rights are a line item. The standard rules are in our terms and conditions. Synthetic characters and looks we developed stay with the studio unless bought out.
How do you handle the EU AI Act?
AI-generated content is labelled where the law requires it, and we document which parts of a film were generated. Real people appear only with a signed release. See how a job runs.
What happens to our data and product material?
Briefs, products, likenesses and references are used only for your job and do not train public models. Delivery runs over a European CDN. Brands that need everything on their own infrastructure get a private, open-source-based AI stack: see Enterprise.
What is the enterprise stack?
A private AI content stack for global, regulated brands: open-weight models on an on-premise core, confidential cloud for peaks, brand-specific fine-tunes that stay yours, designed against GDPR, EU AI Act, NIS2 and sector standards. See Enterprise.
